MY STORY
Leadership has been the through-line of my career.
I’m April Clark, a leadership strategist and educator with more than 20 years of experience leading, developing people, and studying what makes leadership effective.
My perspective was shaped during my career in the U.S. Air Force, where I learned leadership from every direction — as a follower, a peer, a supervisor, an instructor, and a leader responsible for developing others.
And some of my most important lessons came from simply paying attention: to the leaders people wanted to follow, the ones they didn’t, and the difference between the two.
WHAT I BELIEVE ABOUT LEADERSHIP
Leadership starts before the title.
We begin learning how to lead while we’re still learning how to follow.
Leadership development never ends.
Experience should deepen our leadership — not convince us there’s nothing left to learn.
Leadership is relational.
How we build trust, communicate, share information, develop others, and work across boundaries affects our ability to lead.
Our impact is reflected not only in what we accomplish, but in what becomes possible for the people we have the opportunity to lead and develop.
